Important information regarding Panera's medical plans for 2014
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires all individuals to have health insurance or pay an income tax penalty. Because all Panera medical plans provide minimum essential coverage, you will avoid this income tax penalty if you enroll in any of the medical plans. While the healthcare marketplace is closed as of March 31, 2014 for this year's plans, there are some exceptions to allow enrollment for this year.

For Non-Retail Hourly Associates: While everyone can purchase health insurance through the government marketplace / exchange, you likely will not qualify for a Premium Tax Credit ("subsidy") from the government to help pay the cost of this insurance, because Panera offers you at least one plan that meets ACA requirements. If you purchase coverage through an exchange, you will pay premiums directly to the insurance carrier you choose—premiums will not be pre-tax or deducted from your Panera paycheck. You can only enroll for health insurance if you experience a qualifying event.
